Renne

Contemporary Peruvian cooking, a warm way of welcoming guests and the people who continue to give meaning to every table.

The origin

Long before we opened our doors

Renne’s story began during the pandemic, when Carlos Renne Cure Lemaitre and Marcela Pulido Muñoz decided to start a small gourmet empanada project. The idea was simple: to create something different, full of personality and with a quality that would set it apart.

For several weeks, their home became a recipe laboratory. Through successes, mistakes and many tastings, they realised they needed someone who could guide the idea to the next level. That was when they called chef Miguel Ángel Castillo Basto, whom a mutual friend had introduced to them some time before.

Miguel agreed to join them and began developing recipes, sauces and preparations for the project. Without knowing it, none of the three was working on an empanada business. They were taking the first step towards something much larger.

As the days went by, Carlos and Marcela placed the project in God’s hands and asked Him not simply to clear the way for the business they imagined, but to show them the purpose He had for them.

The answer came unexpectedly. Carlos, who had said for years that he would never own a restaurant, began to feel that this was precisely the path he was meant to follow. He proposed that Miguel leave the empanada idea behind and that they build a Peruvian restaurant together.

Miguel answered honestly. During the years he had lived in Colombia, his wife Carolina had never agreed to him entering into a business partnership. It seemed like a definitive answer.

If this project truly is what God has prepared for us, Carolina will say yes.

A short time later, Miguel called again. He had spoken with Carolina and, for the first time, her answer was different: she had said yes.

That was when the three of them understood that the empanadas had never been the destination. They had been the path God used to bring the right people together and give rise to Renne Peruvian Bistro.

A founder’s vision

“At Renne, there are no strangers, only friends we haven’t met yet.”

When Carlos Renne Cure Lemaitre decided to build Renne, he did not imagine a restaurant where the cooking alone would be the centre of attention. He imagined a place where people would feel welcome from the moment they arrived and would want to return again and again.

His education in financial management, with a specialisation in marketing, and his experience developing different companies taught him that the most valuable businesses are not those that simply offer a good product, but those that build lasting relationships grounded in trust.

That understanding of business shaped Renne. Here, Peruvian cooking is the language through which we express our passion, but people have always been the true purpose.

“At Renne, there are no strangers, only friends we haven’t met yet.” That is how Renne sees it.

This idea inspires the way we welcome every guest. Hospitality begins long before the first dish: it starts with a sincere welcome, continues in every detail of the service and ends when someone leaves wanting to return.

We want Renne to be a place where people celebrate, share, create memories and always find a table that makes them feel at home.

That vision continues to guide every decision and remains at the heart of what we do.

Cooking as identity

Renne’s cooking begins with a very simple idea: to respect Peruvian gastronomy deeply.

From the first day, this vision has been led by chef Miguel Ángel Castillo Basto, who has devoted much of his life to studying, living and interpreting a culinary tradition recognised for its diversity.

His approach begins with respect for Peru’s techniques, preparations and culinary codes, with the understanding that authentic cooking depends not only on where ingredients come from, but also on the knowledge with which they are selected, prepared and presented.

That is why we work extensively with fresh Colombian produce at Renne—not as a replacement for Peruvian cooking, but as a way of expressing its richness from the place where we live today.

“The identity remains. What changes is the setting where it comes to life: Buena Mesa, Sin Pretensiones.” That is how Miguel sees it.

Every dish that reaches the table reflects that balance between tradition and innovation. We respect the essence of the recipes, but we also believe that a living cuisine can evolve without losing what makes it unique.

More than reproducing Peruvian dishes, our purpose is to convey the culture, creativity and character of a gastronomy that continues to inspire our team’s work.

That is how we understand cooking at Renne.

Our spirit

  • We believe a good meal has the power to bring people together, open conversations, strengthen friendships and create memories that remain long after leaving the table.
  • We believe hospitality is not a service technique, but a way of life.
  • We believe excellence grows from hundreds of small details which, together, make an encounter stay in the memory.
  • We believe Peruvian cooking deserves to be represented with respect, authenticity and a deep understanding of its history, techniques and identity.
  • We believe innovation only makes sense when it helps us cook and welcome people better, without losing what makes us unique.
  • We believe in the value of people: those who are part of our team, those who work alongside us and every guest who honours us by choosing our table.
  • We believe that at Renne there are no strangers, only friends we haven’t met yet.
  • And above all, we believe God has guided this story from the beginning. We thank Him for the opportunities, the people He placed in our path and the privilege of doing what we love each day.

That is our spirit.
It is, and always will be, the warm and gracious way we welcome you to Renne.
